From Design to Shipment: 6 Key Steps in Customizing Jewelry Packaging (Hands-on Version)

Over the past 20 years, we have customized packaging for thousands of jewelry brands around the world. From start-ups to established chains, many of our clients are initially confused by the process of “customized packaging”. In fact, the whole process is not complicated, as long as you master the following 6 key steps, you can successfully complete the whole process from “design” to “delivery”.

Step 1: Define packaging needs (3 core points must be thought out in advance)

Customization is not picking stock, it needs to be tailored to your product type, brand positioning and sales channel. Make sure you sort out the following questions first:
 1. what kind of jewelry are you going to fit?
 Is it rings, necklaces, bracelets? Is it a single piece pack, or a complete set? Different products have different sizes, which determines the box structure.
 2. Where is your sales scenario?

Is it e-commerce mailing? Store display? High-end display case? Determine the package’s crush resistance, how it opens, and visual design style.
 3. What is the budget range?
 The budget directly affects the choice of materials. For example: paper box, wooden box, flocking box, leather box, the cost difference is very big.
 We usually recommend customers to send us the product picture + brand LOGO + simple budget range, so that we can quickly locate the direction of the packaging and save the time of communication back and forth.

Step 2: Structural proofing (first “box shape”, then “design”)

Most customers think that customization is to choose the color and print LOGO, in fact, the real core lies in the structure of the proofing.
 Common structure are:
 – Drawer carton: suitable for lightweight jewelry, express friendly
 – Magnetic flap box: suitable for gifts, enhance the experience of opening the box.
 – Multi-layer combination box: for complete sets of jewelry or holiday limited models
 – Display Tray: for store display or trade show setup.
 We will provide several structure references according to your product and usage, after customer’s selection, we will proceed to the next step of artwork design.

Step 3: Visual Design & Material Matching (don’t just look at the exterior at this stage)

The design is not just about colors and where to put the logo, but about the “unified visual system” of the whole package. We usually output the following:

 – Box color scheme (Pantone color card or material proof)
 – Logo process simulation (foil stamping, silkscreen, embossing, partial UV, etc. comparison)
 – Material recommendation (leatherette paper/flocking paper/pearl paper/leather PU, etc.)
 – Inner support design (flocking inner support, EVA lining, paper card positioning, folding bracket, etc.)
 Customers can request “color swatches” or “material samples” at this stage, we recommend confirming the material and then unified sampling to avoid rework.

Step 4: Formal proofing (confirm all details at once)

Proofing fee is usually between 100~300 yuan (depending on the material can be offset against the order amount), the following items need special attention:
 – LOGO printing effect: see whether the edge is clear, there is no color difference
 – Color reproduction: whether it is consistent with the design draft
 – Feeling of opening and closing: magnetic strength, whether the box lid fits
 – The stability of the inner tray: whether the jewelry is easy to slide / fall
 – Overall matching effect: if there is a handbag/hangtag/description card, whether it matches with the coordination
 After the proofing confirmation, we will provide a production list, the customer signed the confirmation into mass production.

Step 5: Mass production and quality control (not just “make it”, but “make every one”)

A customized order usually includes the following production processes:
 1. Material procurement: from paper, leather to inner tray raw materials
 2. Printing and processing: logo hot stamping / UV / embossing
 3. manual assembly: some complex structures need to be manually laminated, corner folding
 4. Quality control and packing: random sampling for every 10 pieces, checking the quantity of the whole box.
 Quality control is the most important part, we set up our own quality control standards to check the following issues:
 – Whether the LOGO is offset or color loss
 – Whether the box is skewed or bulging
 – Whether the inner tray is deformed or stuck
 – Whether each package is clean and without scratches
 The rate of defective products is controlled within 1%.

Step 6: shipping and after-sales (don’t just ask about the shipping date, you should also know these points)

Shipping is more than just “sending it out”, we will help you consider the following points:
 Packaging:
 – Individual bag for each box: anti-scratch
 – Foam corner protectors: suitable for export transportation.
 – Shipping by set: save you a set of matching in the warehouse.
 Shipping time:
 – Regular order production cycle: 15~25 days
 – Complex structure or peak season orders: 30~35 days advance booking is recommended!
 Logistics:
 – Domestic shipped by SF / Deppon
 – International FOB, EXW, DDP can be supported.
 – We can assist in arranging consolidation and one piece delivery.
 We will follow up the transportation status after shipment, if the customer receives the goods with damage, misprints, fewer pieces, etc., we promise to make up or pay for the damage in time.

In conclusion: it’s not “can do”, it’s “do it professionally”.

The customization of jewelry packaging is actually a part of brand expression. It is not only a part of the visual identity system, but also the first touch when the user opens the product.
